A permit has been submitted to hold HSA States at Ala Moana Bowls at the regular calendar dates in late April. We again are at the mercy of the government to allow our proven safe events. We are confident if the Covid-19 situation stays the same, they will make the correct decision. If that venue is denied, HSA is working on an alternate competition plan to qualify for our National Contest, Surfing America Championships at Trestles, California. The dates for that shortboard contest as well as the Longboard, SUP etc at Oceanside are on their website: https://www.usasurfing.org/events.html
NSSA Nationals is also on for Huntington Beach with dates to be announced soon at their wesite: http://www.nssa.org/
The 2020/2021 HSA Maui season has concluded. We had two very safe contests at Lahaina Harbor and Ho’okipa Beach Park. Mahalo to the HSA Maui members behavior, DLNR (DOBOR) and the Mayors office for making that possible. We are still the only amateur surfing contests in the state and arguably the only ones to run without incident. We can do this because we are a very small keiki contest and should never be compared to a major professional or corporate event.
HSA Maui is planning on starting the 2021/2022 season if permitted in July at Lahaina Breakwall.
Be safe, check the websites and social media sites for updates. Call the HSAM Hotline for Maui contest latest. Mahalo, Papa John
