HSA Maui Ratings

  • Ratings drop the lowest 2 results each season:
    • With 5 contests, the best 3 results count.
    • With 6 contests, the best 4 results count.
    • With fewer than 5 contests, only 1 result is dropped.
  • This system allows flexibility for missed contests during the season.

HSA State Championships

  • Hosted by: HSA Oahu at Ala Moana Bowls annually in Spring.
  • Tentative Dates: Check Oahu’s Schedule for updates.
  • Invite Numbers: Vary each year; typically ranging from 5 to 7 athletes per age division.

States Entry Process

  • Invited athletes receive a PDF entry form to print and mail to Oʻahu.
  • All entries must be received by the stated due date; late entries are not guaranteed a spot.
  • Alternate spots may become available by beach entry only if space allows, though this is rare, especially for U18 Shortboard divisions.

NATIONALS: USA Championships

  • Formerly Surfing America: Top finishers at the State Championships may be invited to the US Championships held at Trestles in San Clemente, California, typically in June.
  • Membership Requirement: An additional membership to USA Surfing is required to compete.
  • The number of invitations varies by division, generally ranging from the top 2 to top 6 competitors, with older divisions often receiving more invites.
  • Adult Longboard, SUP, and Para Divisions: Competitors must be current HSA members prior to entering USA Championships. An additional USA Surfing membership is also required.
